Tell the LBJ Foundation to include PWD’s
On July 26, 2015 we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act by George H W Bush.  The ADA is considered the civil rights legislation for the 52 million people with disabilities living in the US.  During the signing ceremony, President Bush said “…tear down these walls of discrimination…”
Even though the disability rights movement goes back 5 decades it is frequently ignored by the traditional civil rights community.
It is particularly unfortunate that the celebration of the 50th annivery of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in Austin next week has no recognition of the ADA nor the role Texans like Justin Dart Jr., Lex Frieden, Peg Nosek, Marilyn Golden, Stephanie Thomas and President George H W Bush played in its passage.
The story of the integration of people with disabilities into every facet of our communities, is a story of civil and human rights that has included political and legal action as well as civil disobedience.
Contact the organizers of the LBJ Summit and tell them to recognize the achievements of the disability rights movement, the ADA and include disability rights advocates at the Summit.
