Hi everyone,
How many of you remember in 2008 when RCIL had it’s first Deaf Day that invited different vendors to CDR/RCIL office to share the modern technologies out in the community. At that time, the wireless video phones were popular. Many people came to see the newly released Purple MVP Video Phone. Today, that device is still out there and used but no longer on the market stragedy of Purple industries as they now give out the P3 Software. That was the 18th year of the signing.
It is now the 21st years of the signing of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). And, RCIL/CDR would like to invite the hearing, deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing community to come and see some of the vendors that will attend our office to see how ADA helps the our deaf community since that day of the signing.
If you would like to know one way that ADA helps our community is by the ADA’s Title IV that is often known as the Telecommunications Act. This act requires relay services for people with speech and hearing difficulties. Guess what vendor will be there… we all know about Purple, Sprint and Sorenson Video Relay Services (VRS). They will be there! But, the interesting part is Verizon Wireless are interested in attending and installing their VRS softwares in the phones to show how they are made to help the deaf and hard of hearing. I thought this was interesting. How many times have you visited the stores and felt that you wish the software was already installed in their IPhones, Droid or other applications? This is an opporunity for you to test the device.
