There were two announcements below by NAD and VRSCA. It seems like the regular programs on Television at 2 pm might be delayed about three and a half (3.5) minutes before the shows start. If you have time, it might a cool experience to check the television at 2 pm. It might be 3.5 great minutes of history of Emergency Alert System Test.

National Association of the Deaf* * (NAD) Issues Notice About November 9th Television Emergency Alert System Test

On November 9, at 2:00 pm EST, all televisions in the United States will show an Emergency Alert System (EAS) test. Two federal government agencies, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), are testing this system for the first time nationwide to find out how well it works.

It is only a test. There is no emergency. The FCC and FEMA are asking many organizations including the NAD to let everyone know that this is only a test. Please tell all your family and friends about this test warning and that there is no reason to worry.

FIRST NATIONWIDE TEST OF THE EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM:

NOV. 9, 2011, 2 P.M. EDT

As part of ongoing efforts to keep our country and communities safe during emergencies, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The EAS test plays a key role in ensuring the nation is prepared for all hazards, and that the U.S. public can receive critical and vital information, should it ever be needed. The first nationwide test will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. EDT. This test may last up to three and a half minutes, and will be transmitted via television and radio stations within the U.S., including Alaska, Hawaii, the territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa. Similar to local emergency alert system tests, an audio message will interrupt television and radio programming indicating: “This is a test.” When the test is over, regular programming will resume.
