Last week, ADAPT went to Harrisburg, PA, to say that “My Medicaid Matters”. We faced many struggles of opinions. Some people in Capital were saying that they have children and as parent they are embrassed with our behavor. But that did not stop the activiists from continiuing their missions because we know “My Medicaid Matters.”
Some people were wondering if our message got accross. They did. Below is an email from our ADAPT friends in Colorado. Eventhough, some people think we failed. But, the country now saw some of the problems and both candidates are now paying attention to our concerns about Medicaid and Homecare choice!
Please read the below message that was send to some through the Chief Opperating Officer (COO) Chris Hilderbrant. Of course, people united will never be defeat!.

Subject: ADAPT Activists in Colorado: “President Obama Supports Community Living”
With the Presidential campaign in its final weeks, Medicaid has finally been highlighted. When it comes to Medicaid, the difference between the candidates is dramatic so ADAPT ended the Harrisburg action by protesting at the Romney-Ryan campaign office. When we were asked if we were being partisan by just hitting the Republican candidate, we pointed out that we were not protesting because of the party. We weren’t even protesting because of the person. We were protesting because of their plan.
The Romney-Ryan plan for Medicaid would block grant Medicaid – eliminating significant victories like the Community First Choice Option – and cut $810 billion out of the program over 10 years. That means a Romney administration would CUT one-third of Medicaid! States are already dealing with their own budget issues by cutting vital Medicaid home and community based services, so with one-third less federal funding, home and community-based services would be devastated.
Although President Obama has proposed some cuts to Medicaid, we know that he is committed to the program. On Monday we heard how his administration had been working behind the scenes to stop Washington State from letting the Supreme Court rethink the Olmstead decision. We learned how the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice brokered a deal where Washington State agreed to add an exception process to their personal care cuts that would prevent people from being forced into institutional settings AND would not appeal MR v Dreyfus to the Supreme Court.
Recognizing that President Obama has demonstrated support for both our civil right to live in the community AND the Medicaid funding we need to make that right a reality, Colorado ADAPTers headed to his rally yesterday to thank him. They brought “Obama Supports Community Living” signs with them to make sure the President understood why they were there.
As the President moved through the crowd, the signs DID catch his attention. Not only did he see them, he SIGNED one! There is more to this story, but we wanted to get this part out.
Colorado ADAPTers have been working hard throughout the campaign to make sure that our voice is heard. Thanks to them for their leadership!
My Medicaid Matters!
