[The following is an opportunity to support a local housing advocacy group – a group who may join our coalition in the future.]
Take Back the Land member Renée Verbjar’s case goes before Monroe County Supreme Court on this coming Tuesday, December 11th, at 1:30 pm, before Judge Polito. She has been fighting illegal and immoral code violation fines on her home for over ten years, and is finally facing unjust foreclosure. That must not happen!
She has an attorney and has filed a challenge to the foreclosure.
This is a precedent-setting case, challenging the right of the city of Rochester to attach fines for code violations to tax bills, making it virtually impossible to maintain a home while challenging the validity of code violations.
We would like to assemble a large group for a rally in her support at 1:00 outside the Hall of Justice at 99 Exchange Blvd. If you can, bring signs promoting a moratorium on city evictions, or separation of taxes and violation fines, or protecting our neighbors from predatory practices or housing as a human right.
Let’s keep Renée in her home! Protect our neighbors and our neighborhoods.
Take back the land!
See you there!
