Groups To Hold Candidate Forum on Disability Issues
(Rochester, NY) Seven local groups have come together to host this year’s Candidate Forum on Disability Issues. The forum, a mainstay in the Rochester community, will continue its mission to educate voters and candidates on disability issues. The forum will be at The National Museum of Play at The Strong on Thursday, October 24th from 6 – 8pm.
All candidates (and/or their representatives) for Sheriff, County Legislature, City Mayor, City Council and City School Board have been invited. Refer to the Center for Disability Rights’ website at www.cdrnys.org or the event’s Facebook invitation for a list of attending candidates. (https://www.facebook.com/events/274712605987185/)
This year’s forum will be once again, moderated by radio personality, Bill Moran, from WCMF’s The Break Room.
The participating groups include: AutismUp, Center for Disability Rights, Family Advocates United, Mental Health Association, NYS Disabilities Advocacy Association & Network,RegionalCenterfor Independent Living, Rochester ADAPT,
This candidate forum will focus on issues affecting people with disabilities of all ages, including children and seniors, as well as family members, co-workers and friends, as almost everyone is touched by disability.
Candidates were sent a questionnaire asking for their ideas and attitudes on a number of issues. Their submitted answers will be made available on the Center for Disability Rights’ website at www.cdrnys.org. Questionnaires are added online as they are received.
People with disabilities in the audience, as well as those who cannot attend, will be paying close attention to responses that are related to their day-to-day living situations. It’s critical that candidates understand the needs of people with disabilities of all ages, and the impact of the key issues on all families.
